Robinsons 3-6 Whitchurch
Robinsons had a point to prove in this return match, after having two points snatched away in the fixture at WIS.
Whitchurch had a point to prove after the disappointement against Holcombe. The Squad knows they are capable, but just need that performance and result to kick-start a good run.
The Coombe Dingle water-based pitch continues to cause problems - this week it was flooded and the macth had to moved to the adjacent sand pitch. Whitchurch started brightly at a high tempo and took an early lead through an Alex Keating penalty corner. Whitchurch maintained the pressure and extended their lead in open play from Laith El Khatib.
Some typical sloppy play resulted in Robinsons being awarded a penalty stroke - which they duely converted. Whitchurch remained focussed and continued to apply pressure via some constructive play and clever skill from Joe Naughalty - allowing Mark Whatling to convert. Robinsons 1-3 Whitchurch at half time.
The second half continued in much the same vein - attractive hockey from Whitchurch, but gifting Robinsons a sloppy penalty corner, converted on the rebound after an initial good save from Williams. Whitchurch were unabaited and went up the other end, forced a penalty corner. El Khatib scored from the top to leave the score 3-4.
This appeared to relax the Whitchurch side - going on to score two more through a Westerman penalty stroke and Whatling in open play.
Whitchurch could have won this by a far bigger margin and were disappointed to lose Jon Collis to a knee injury. The squad stuck together and pulled out a well needed three points.
