Result 4-3 win

In the return leg of this friendly affair, the 1st XI had a number of points to prove.  Firstly they needed to avenge the defeat at the hands of Telford in the pre-season friendly at WHS.  More importanlty was the need to get back to winning ways and start the year in a positive fashion, in an attempt to build some momentum going into the resumption of the EHL on 2/3 February.

With an under-strength side Whitchurch started slowly, on what was a cold and wet day in Shropshire.  Andy Cavendish's error was punished in the first minute and Whitchurch found themselves a goal down.  Not the start they had envisaged and a little reminiscent of pre-Christmas games.

Nevertheless, Whitchurch remained positive and put together some good moves, which were rewarded with a penalty corner.  Tom Fisher stepped up to score on the rebound - remarkably is fisrt goal of the season.

The game remain fairly even through the remainder of the first period, only for the home side to take the lead following another error and turnover in midfield.  Telford countered swiftly and went on to add another in open play, leaving them ahead 3-1 at the break.

Whitchurch missed a number of clear cut chances and should have been level at half time.

Some tactical changes by Tyrone at half time saw Alex Keating relishing a new avanced role.  Whitchurch dominated the second half, with Keating scoring two and Adam Barker scoring his first for the 1st XI.  The Whitchurch defence held firm, restricting Telford to one shot and running out 4-3 winners.

Considering the side was depleted and contained a number of 2nd XI players, both the result and the performance was encouraging for the immediate future.
