Firebrands 1-3 Whitchurch
The first game of the second half of the EHL season saw the boys travelling across the bridge to Bristol. A good performance here and three points would give Whitchurch a rare double over their West Country opponents this season.
Whitchurch started confidently, knocking the ball around with suitable aplomb. Whitchurch go their reward inside five minutes with neil Potter slotting home from open play afte a neat build up. Further probing in the 7th minute resulted in a penalty corner for the Welsh side - Laith El Khatib doubled the advantage to leave the Bristolians shell-shocked and unable to get into the game.
Whitchurch could not maintain their tempo for the full duration of the first half and conceded just before half time.
In the second half Whitchurch reasserted themselves from the off with some slick passing and again their hosts struggled to keep up. However, Whitchurch still could not convert some clear cut chances. As the half progressed the game became more open with errors becoming prevalent.
In the late stages of the game with Firebrands pushing to get something from the game, Whitchurch Captain Ben made a mazey run into the heart of the Firebrands defence, beating three players and unleashing an unstopable reverse stick drive to take all three points.
