Whitchurch 6-1 Ipswich

A weakend Ipswich side made the long trip West to Cardiff for this “early” EHL game.  Ipswich had lost some squad players to the national U18s competition and were restricted to a bare 11.

Whitchurch were not in a mood for charity and moved the ball quickly and accurately from minute one.  Playing some of their best hockey of the season Whitchurch opened the scoring through Alex Keating after six minutes.  A further four goals from Whatling, another from Keating, Young and Naughalty gave the home side a commanding 5-0 lead after 53 minutes.

Ipswich did get a consolation on 56 minutes but were well out of it by then.  Mark Whatling finished off what turned out to be a rout with 3 minutes remaining.  Unfortunately the Ipswich goalkeeper was injured in trying to save the shot from close range.  He remained injured on the turf for some time and the game was conceded by Ipswich.  After a brief spell in shock he was able to make his way off the field and to the changing room.  The injuries were not thought to be serious and he has made a good recovery.
