Saints 2s v Penarth 2s Match Report (04 Oct 14)

 Result: 4-0 Win

Great win today – always good to put 4 past a Penarth team! This season is going to see a lot of movement between the teams as players ‘step in’ to the other squads. This game was no different with plenty of movement between the 1s, 2s and 3s to give some healthy competition for places.

Arriving at the beach (sorry, Leckwith) Saints began the game at a fast pace with Emily Greenwood running the line for us and giving plenty of advice. The first goal came from a Meg Atkins run down the right, picking the ball up and taking it into the circle to score from a narrow angle with Sam Collis in close support. Meg Blake made a couple of timely saves before Saints scored their second, Sam Collis finishing in her trademark style, the shot going just inside the post.

Half time team talk done and we were focused on playing the shorter passes. A couple of classy moves and Emily Williams took the ball into the circle down the middle, played the ball off a defenders foot and carried on to finish in style. The final flourish and 4th goal came from a ball into the circle from Jude, Emily did well to collect and a pacy cross was finished by Meg Atkins on the goal-line.

Lots of plus points – workrate excellent, belief in each other’s ability, talking and commitment. Great warm-up for tomorrow’s 2nd XI cup game against Prem 1 opposition Howardians. Player of the match Vicky Stroud, having a top game in defence, coping very well with sleep deprivation!

Scorers – Meg Atkins 2, Sam Collis, Emily Williams
