Indian Gymkhana Vs Whitchurch Match Report (Sunday 19th October)

Whitchurch made the journey to Middlesex to play against Indian Gymkhana. Both sides were in the bottom three of the league going in to the game so it promised to be a closely fought fixture.

The game started at high pace with the home side having the better of the early play. An early attack saw Will Teagle kick the ball again, this week unintentionally, and Gymkhana unleashed a vicious drag flick from the short corner into the side netting, making the score 1-0.
The rest of the first half was played out in the middle third with neither team able to manufacture any significant chances.

Going into the second half, Whitchurch were moving the ball much better and some sustained pressure saw the Gymkhana left back sent off for not retreating at a free hit.
Whitchurch took advantage of the man overlap and had periods of sustained play in the opponents half.
A barrage of Whitchurch short corners failed to yield any real danger to the Gymkhana goal and they were further frustrated  as the ball refused to fall to a Whitchurch stick in the D.
Gymkhana changed their game plan by throwing long aerials from deep and keeping every man behind the ball. They kept the ball away dutifully and Whitchurch could not find the back of the net.
The clock ticked down and, at the final whistle, Whitchurch were left to rue their lack of sharpness in the opponent’s area.
Next week Whitchurch travel to Guildford as 9th plays 10th in the West Conference.
