Match Report -

Saints 5s v Llanybydder 1s Cup competition Sat 29th Sept

Result: Saints win 4-0

A great win for Saints 5s today against a tough West Wales outfit. The key was the 5s really moved the ball on early with accurate passes and quick interplay between the midfield and forwards. This really opened up the spaces so it wasn't long before Saints found the backboard. The younger players really stepped up to the mark with maturity and calmness well beyond their years in particular with Maya controlling the top of midfield and Delyth working hard in the screen. Saints went 2-0 up but were continually put under pressure by the opponents who fought really hard putting the Saints defence under pressure. Llanybydder efforts were rewarded when they were given a penalty stroke but this was amazingly saved by Saints keeper Freya making a brilliant one hand and stick save high to her right, which resulted in her being bear hugged by the skipper. After half time Saints carried on where they left off and put the game to bed with 2 further goals. As the opponents tired, Saints controlled the game but had to shuffle their formation a little after Poppy decided to stop the ball with her face and Alice limped off with after twisting her knee. In the end it was a tough game but Saints controlled the game and well deserved the win.

Scorers: Maya - 2, Katherine - 1, Delyth- 1
